Watchmen UK Stunt

Nicole and I went and saw Watchmen this weekend. I loved it. It was everything I remembered it to be and it made me want to go back to the graphic novel just to stay within the world a little longer. I was surprised to see how faithful it was to the source material and it makes me even more excited to get the insanely uncut special special version down the road.

Much like you I'm sure you've been inundated by Watchmen advertising over the last couple months. Every website has had a chance to unveil this or that and it didn't matter what tv channel you turned on, all you saw was Watchmen. I didn't mind it to be quite honest. It was all done tastefully and executed with great craft.

Up until yesterday I thought I had seen all that could be done to promote the movie. Then I ran across the UK stunt which is absolutely amazing. Check out the YouTube video and be amazed. If this doesn't make you want to watch it, I don't know what will.

Who Will Watch the Watchmen

Great another Hollywood summer movie with brainless superhero action and zero plot. As long as the effects are good and the kids like it right! But hold-on, these heros have no super strength, no xray eyes and wait a sec it's set in the Nixon era and did I hear that one of the super hero's gets raped? What the hell!

Yep, it's comics meet the real world and in the real world superheros have real problems so I guess we have a plot. The premise seems interesting enough but will the kids see it? The answer that is mr 300, Zack Snyder who also did a pretty decent redo on the Dawn of the Dead flick a couple years back.

So why am I interested in this? The idea of bringing a comic to the big screen isn't new and Sin City has shown that now they can take illustrated panels from the book and bring them to film. What's cool about this is that this story, this film and is going to be a real as possible. Which means gritty, raw, uncomfortable. The images above already show the direction. Desaturated color, roughed up and beaten backdrop, a sense of irony in the characters. It's going to be really interesting how they market this one, stay tuned.
